I figured I should make my first blog post about how why I am a photographer, how long I have been doing it and where I want to see myself in the future. I will try to right a blog post every week or whenever I have something cool to share!!! I will warn you I am not a writer or an English person so be prepared for errors;)
I started doing photos my Junior year of high school because my friend (now boyfriend) was in a photography class and needed a model. I started taking photos for fun and quickly fell in love with it. From there I had friends help me get experience under my belt and became an intern for Monroe+Co my senior year. From there I grew my business and started to do weddings on my own. I had two by myself last year and I have 10 on my own this year! I also have attended a few conferences and will attend two more within the next month.
The reason why I am photographer is because I am a hopeless romantic and I love capturing peoples stories. I still get butterflies every time I look at photos as I am editing them. I want to continue to get better and I haven’t ever had something like that in my life. I was good at tap dancing, drumming and singing but I never had to really work to be better because music has always made sense to me. When it comes to photography, it is something I have to work at and I love the constant urge to want to be better. I love looking at others work and being influenced to be better. Another reason why I love being a photographer is because of the community of other photographers. I have never met another photographer who hasn’t been willing to answer my questions or encourage me to be better. They help me become a better photographer and more importantly a business owner. As a young adult who started my own business there were a lot of people who have doubted me over the years. These people have pushed me to be better and I am honestly quite thankful for their doubts. I could go on and on about why I love taking photos but another main reason why I love being a photographer is because people do not get to see the same thing that I do. When it comes to a wedding, I see every moment of the that couples day. I see the tears, the laughs, the yelling and everything in between. I see it and even better… I get to capture it. When I have a senior, I see them start out being shy but at the end of our session I see them grown to be confident in who they are. I see them change (even just a little bit) through my camera. My goal for my clients is for them to walk away from the session feeling more beautiful and confident then they already were from the beginning of our session.
When people ask me where do I see myself/ business in 5 years… I usually tell them “Honestly no idea but just not in the midwest”. But the more I think about it, the more I actually have figured out. I know that I want to leave the midwest as soon as I am done with school in 2 years (sorry not sorry). I want to live somewhere warm and in a bigger city. I would love to one day own a wedding venue in Texas or Arizona. I would also like to be traveling across the country and internationally every month. I hope within the next year I find another mentor who travels internationally and tag along for some international weddings/ elopements. That is the dream right there… photographing in different countries while capturing people falling in love. I also assume that I will pop out a kid or two at some point but that will have to wait once I am done doing the bulk of my travels. I know for a fact that in 5 years I will be somewhere warmer and still telling peoples stories through my lens but other than that, I cant tell you much more. If you want to see me and where I go just follow along with me during the journey. I know it’ll be one you don’t want to miss.
